2019 General Conference passes Traditional Plan
After hours of delaying tactics by opponents, the United Methodist General Conference 2019 delegates passed The Traditional Plan 438 to 384. A last-ditch effort to bring the One Church Plan back was defeated in the morning and was followed by efforts to amend the Traditional Plan to address constitutionality issues raised by the Judicial Council, the church’s top court. The Rev. Tim McClendon, South Carolina, called for a vote on the entire Traditional plan, which affirms the church’s current bans on ordaining LGBTQ clergy and officiating at or hosting same-sex marriage. When the vote was announced and flashed on the screen, the room erupted in singing, “This is My Story” from observers. Some delegates gathered in a circle and joined in with the singing. More...

Berlin gives the minority report on Tuesday morning of General Conference
The Rev. Tom Berlin, Clergy Head of the General Conference delegation and pastor of Floris UMC in Herndon, presented to the General Conference body the minority report of the One Church Plan that had failed the previous day. "I come to you to express my love for the church," Berlin said.  "I have a love of the church that I do not even understand. It is certainly not because she is perfect. It is certainly not because its members are in agreement. I have a love of the church that stems from a Biblical vision of what God says can be found in Revelation. And sometimes when I talk about it, I get emotional and people think that I’m upset or something’s wrong, but it’s only because in that moment I just caught a glimpse of what we can be by God’s help. And you share that vision with me. You know that same vision or you wouldn’t spend this arduous time in these seats. We are all here because of that same love.
" You can find Berlin speaking at the 40-minute and the one hour and 10-minute mark on the video at the link. More...
