Madeline Pillow named interim Communications director

Madeline Pillow

Madeline Pillow, who currently serves as editor of the Virginia United Methodist Advocate, has been named interim director of Communications for a six-month time period beginning Sept. 1 following Linda Rhodes' retirement.

"This decision by the Common Table Personnel Committee includes the understanding that the primary responsibility of the director of Communications is to develop and implement a comprehensive communications strategy which informs, equips, encourages and connects the people and churches of the Virginia Annual Conference for fruitfulness in their mission to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world," the Rev. Marc Brown, director of Connectional Ministries, said in an announcement.

"Linda will work with Madeline during the months of June, July and August with this transition," Brown said. "In her ministry as interim director, Madeline will continue as the editor of the Virginia Advocate and will perform the following position functions: oversight and direction of the work of the Communications office, shape and implement communication of news and information from the Virginia Conference and the larger United Methodist Church, manage external media relations, provide resources to help local churches use communications tools to grow their churches including Rethink Church, and serve as primary staff resource for the Conference Board of Communications. I invite you to join me in welcoming and supporting Madeline as she transitions into the ministry position of director of Communications."

Pillow said she is "honored by the trust the Personnel Committee has placed upon me as I prepare to assume this role in the fall. Determined to give my utmost to the additional responsibilities of this position, I am humbled to follow in the great example, talent and ministry of Linda Rhodes."

"Through this transition," Pillow said, "our office will remain focused on the ministry and witness of our conference, sharing the stories from around Virginia and being a resource and aide to our local churches."
