VAUMC Relationship Partners

Relationship Partners of the Virginia Annual Conference are organizations that started as a ministry of the Conference. The partners operate independently but continue to be supported by the local churches. The partnership is essential for all to continue to serve the world together!

Every year Relationship Agreements are presented to the Missional Connections Team of the Conference Missional Ministries Board between the Virginia Conference and Heart Havens Inc.; UMFS; Pinnacle Living; Virginia United Methodist Housing Development Corporation; and Wesley Housing Development Corporation.

Heart Havens Inc.

Heart Havens is a residential service for adults with developmental disabilities. The first home was opened in Virginia Beach in 1999, answering  a question asked of a pastor. A parent of an adult with a developmental disability in Virginia asked her United Methodist pastor, “Where will my child live when I’m gone?” Heart Havens continues their work to provide an answer to many families in similar situations.

Virginia United Methodist Housing Development Co.

Starting in 1975, Virginia United Methodist Housing Development Co. (VAUMHDC) saw the unmet need for affordable housing and continued its work to provide needed housing for the people in need. Today the VUMHDC continues to seek ways to continue expanding our service by developing quality affordable housing while making sure that our current properties are maintained and upgraded to be sustainable into the future.

Currently, VUMHDC owns 15 properties around the Commonwealth and co-sponsors 19 properties.

Wesley Housing Development Co.

Building Up

The establishment of Wesley Housing resulted from the 1974 Urban Consultation sponsored by the United Methodist Church in Northern Virginia. Ms. Virginia Peters chaired the Affordable Housing Task Force and Wesley Housing was born. The organization was little more than a cardboard box of files in the back of Peters’ car. Now, Wesley Housing currently serves more than 3,200 residents and employs nearly 100 team members. Recently, named one of the top affordable housing developers in the country, Wesley Housing is continuing their mission to build up the lives of its most vulnerable community members by creating and operating healthy, supportive, stable, affordable housing communities.
