The Conference Legislative Network (CLN) is a cooperative effort of the Conference Board of Church and Society and the Conference United Methodist Women. We work together as advocates in support of policies and programs which are just and oppose those which are unjust.
The Conference Legislative Network exists to communicate timely, accurate information on legislation before the General Assembly to United Methodists across the Commonwealth and to encourage individual replies and opinions addressed to elected officials.
The standards that we hope to emphasize are based on the Social Principles, a part of the Discipline of our Church. These principles are reviewed and revised every four years at the General Conference which is made up of equal numbers of clergy and laity who represent the Church’s expression on social issues.
The mission of the CLN reflects our beliefs that “the strength of a political system depends on the full and willing participation of its citizens” and “the Church should continually exert a strong ethical influence upon the state, supporting policies and programs deemed to be just and opposing policies and programs that are unjust."
