Description

The Society of St. Andrew, an ecumenical Christian hunger ministry, provides direct relief to the nation's hungry by salvaging potatoes and other fresh produce that would otherwise be wasted and delivering it to food banks, soup kitchens, shelters, and churches throughout the contiguous United States. At a cost of less than two cents per serving, the Society of St. Andrew's Potato Project provides direct relief to those in America who suffer from hunger. This program primarily reaches those who are homeless, those with shelter related needs, the elderly, children, and families.  

Project Goals  

  1. Provide perfectly good, nutritious potatoes and other produce that would otherwise go to waste to the hungry at the cost of less that two cents per serving.  
  2. To provide seed potatoes to the impoverished of Appalachia to help them gain food self-sufficiency.   Project Budget (see attached)  
  3. To challenge United Methodists to become directly involved in attacking hunger in the United States and abroad.
  4. To expand United Methodists to become directly in attacking hunger in the United States and abroad.
  5. To engage United Methodists in ministry with the poor by getting them involved
