Dr. Eduardo Maia is a missionary with the Board of Global Ministries of the United Methodist Church serving through the Global Health program as a physician and surgeon with Chicuque Hospital in Chicuque, Mozambique.

Born in Brazil, Dr. Maia attended the Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais and earned his degree in medicine. He has completed residencies in both general and trauma surgery. Before his missionary assignment Dr. Maia worked in Brazil as a physician and general surgeon.

"I think the mission of the church is to show the person of Jesus to every living being," Eduardo shares. "I confess that in my situation it was not so simple to say yes. I had a good job, a good house and a great family and I leave it all behind for three years. By faith I am answering this call and I know God will supply all my needs."

Dr. Maia is married to Claudia, also a GBGM missionary serving in Chicuque as a community worker in public health.
