Day 37: June 10

Scripture: Psalm 33

Music brings us all together

Make a Joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth. Worship the Lord with gladness; come into his presence with singing. (NRSV Psalm 100: 1, 2)

Music is an international language. We all understand that music can be made from different instruments and produce a beautiful sound. I am reminded of a time in my life, when I thought that I would want to be a great trombone player. I was in middle school, and I wanted to play a trombone because I wanted to be like my friend who played a trombone. There were many more instruments that I could have chose from, but I favored the trombone because of my friend. I did not know how much of a challenge it was to learn the seven positions on a trombone and that many notes could be played in one position. I endured after many months of struggling. I did not make a joyful noise at first, but with hard work and practice, I was able to produce a nice sound. I was able to play with the High School band in my community because of my determination and hard work. It’s nice to hear others in the band playing their instruments and making beautiful music to the same tune.

I envision how our Annual Conference will be this year. We will have many members from all over Virginia coming together in order to bring some order to the church. God gives us all gifts and talents and when we combine them all together we can do powerful things for the church. This psalm reminds us always to “shout” also means “sing” in Hebrew as brothers and sisters.

We further learn several things from God. First, we learn that God made everything. The seas, the skies, and the stars are made by God’s word. Secondly, we make plans and it is only in God’s mercy that they are filled. Thirdly, God sees all and God knows everything we are capable of doing. We can do the impossibilities with God’s help. Lastly, Armies are powerful, Annual conferences are powerful, but God is most powerful. So let us learn these lessons so that we can continue to play in God’s marching band. Keep the Faith!!!

Prayer: In the beginning you moved over the face of the water, making the waves calmly dance. Thank You, Lord for moving across the days of our lives in order to put music in our hearts and rhythm to our souls. Amen.
