Day 32: June 5

Scripture: Mark 10:46-52

Jesus leaving Jericho came upon a blind beggar sitting by the roadside who cries, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” Mark gives his name, Bartimaeus, son of Timaeus. Many sternly order him to be quiet, but Jesus stops and says, “Call him here.” Then Jesus says to Bartimaeus, “What do you want me to do for you?” The blind beggar simply requests, “My teacher, let me see again.” Jesus said to him, “Go, your faith has made you well.” Immediately he regained his sight and followed him on the way.

An important focus of this passage is that the blind beggar was someone’s son, an individual. We find all through Jesus’ life his manifest love of each of us in a deeply personal manner. Our Christian community strengthens itself and acts as Christ’s arms when we become personal in extending love to our fellows.

Prayer: Wipe class and standing from our eyes today, and give us an upwelling love for each person as a child of God.

Thought for the day: Every person I meet today is someone’s daughter or son.
