News Release, Sept. 26, 2006

The Virginia Annual Conference Common Table for Church Vitality met Sept. 22-23 in Glen Allen.

The members worshipped together and shared in covenantal small groups.  Grants were approved to support ministries in 12 districts totaling $142,840.

Members heard a report on the Bishop’s Task Force on Professions of Faith.  Various models for Christian conferencing, as well as plans to improve the annual conference session, were presented as part of ongoing care for resolutions tabled by the 2006 conference session.  A task force was formed to study electronic voting at conference.

Three members of the 2002-2004 Common Table Task Force reviewed findings and values leading to the creation of the Common Table.  Members reviewed progress toward hiring new staff for Hispanic Ministries and Stewardship.

A preliminary report was given by Ted Smith, the chair of the task force on Resourcing the African-American Church.
