Members' Biographies and Pictures

Darlene Amon is a homemaker, and the lay representative for equipping the local church on the Common Table.  She is a member of Monumental Church in Portsmouth, and is the Portsmouth District Lay Leader.  A former conference lay leader, and past president of jurisdictional and national associations of lay leaders, Darlene co-led the Virginia delegation to general and jurisdictional conference in 2000 and 2004.  She and husband Ollie (“O. J.”) have three children and six grandchildren.    

 

Shirley Cauffman is the lay leader of the Virginia Annual Conference.

 

 

 

        

The Rev. Gina Anderson-Cloud is an elder serving Sycamore Church in Disputanta.  She represents ministries with children on the Common Table.  Prior to entering ministry, Gina specialized in social work, advocacy and policy-making on behalf of impoverished and vulnerable populations.  She holds degrees from Radford University, the Medical College of VA/VCU, and Candler School of Theology.  She serves as the chairperson for the Children's Initiative Committee and as a board member for the Society of St. Andrew.            

 

The Rev. Robert C. Blinn is the secretary of the Virginia Annual Conference, and is the secretary (without vote) on the Common Table.  In 2005-2006, he was on sabbatical leave, comparing Wesleyan “holiness” with similar teachings in other denominations.  He is a graduate of Emory & Henry College and Vanderbilt Divinity School.  He has pastored churches in Tennessee, Kentucky and in Floyd, Montgomery, Frederick and Henry Counties in Virginia.  He and his wife, the Rev. Mary Beth Blinn, have two grown children.      

       

Jim Branscome is recently retired as the Virginia conference treasurer, and represents administration for the Common Table.  He is a member of Good Shepherd Church in Richmond, and has been a lay delegate to several general and jurisdictional conferences.  He was born and raised on a dairy farm in Carroll County, and is a graduate of Virginia Tech and Wake Forest University.  He has also been a college administrator.  He and his wife, Libby, have three grown children.     

       

The Rev. Clarence Brown is superintendent of the Norfolk District, and is the Cabinet representative on the Common Table.  He has also served as the Charlottesville district superintendent, and is in demand as a revival preacher and Bible study leader.  He is a graduate of Georgia State University and Gammon Theological Seminary in Atlanta, GA.  He has pastored in Chesapeake, and directed the Wesley Westminster Foundation at Norfolk State University.  He and his wife, Jaie, have two sons.  

 

Lawrence L. “Larry” Burian is president of the conference United Methodist Men and serves on the Common Table. He retired from the National Air Transportation Association in 1994 after serving 19 years as president and CEO. Larry is a Korea-era veteran of the U.S. Air Force, is licensed as a commercial pilot, and has taught aviation technology courses at the community college level. A native of Missouri, Larry and his wife, Irene, live in Reedville, a Chesapeake Bay community. They have four daughters and nine grandchildren.       

    

The Rev. Susan S. Garrett is the Director of Connectional Ministries for the Virginia Annual Conference.  She is the chairperson of the Common Table.  She has served as superintendent of the Harrisonburg District, and as the pastor of Grace Church in Middletown.  She is holds degrees from Vassar College, Yale Divinity School, and Wesley Theological Seminary.  She is married to Daniel Garrett, a retired clergy member of the Virginia Conference.  They have two sons and twin grandsons.

The Rev. J.P. Hong  is the pastor of Culmore Church, Arlington District. He serves with Equipping for Inclusivity.

 

 

 

     

The Rev. Alvin J. Horton is senior pastor of Mt. Pisgah Church in Midlothian, and represents communications and conferencing on the Common Table.  As director of communications and editor of the Virginia United Methodist Advocate, he was voted “Communicator of the Year” in 2001 by the UM Association of Communicators.  He serves on the General Commission on Communication, and was a delegate to three general conferences and four jurisdictional conferences (1992-2004). He and his wife Cheryl are parents of three teenage sons.     

       

Bishop Charlene P. Kammerer is completing a decade of service as an episcopal leader.  Assigned to the Virginia Conference in 2004, she serves on the Common Table by virtue of her office.   She is also the vice-president of the General Board of Discipleship, a member of the denomination’s committee on Hispanic ministries, and a covenant group leader in the Council of Bishops.  She is married to Leigh Kammerer, an addiction counselor. They have one son, a daughter-in-law and two grandchildren living in Glen Allen.       

          

The Rev. Mark V. Ogren is the pastor of Reveille Church in Richmond.  He represents ministries with adults on the Common Table.  Bishop Charlene Kammerer has named Mark as the incoming superintendent of the Ashland District, beginning July 1, 2006.  He is a graduate of Iowa State University and Duke Divinity School.  He has pastored churches in Shenandoah County, Winchester, Farmville and Fredericksburg.  He is a member of the conference board of ordained ministry.     

 

The Rev. David J. Rochford III is the pastor of St. Mark's Church in the Roanoke District.  He represents Mission and New Churches.     

 

 

 

 

Dr. Theodore “Ted” Smith serves as the pastor of St. Stephen’s Church in Burke, and is the clergy representative for human resources for the Common Table.  He holds degrees from Virginia Wesleyan College, Emory University's Candler School of Theology, and Wesley Theological Seminary.  Ted is married to Rev. Teresa Smith, and they have an 11 year old daughter, Helen.  In addition to election to previous General and Jurisdictional Conferences, Ted serves on the Virginia State Bar Disciplinary Board.            

The Rev. Tim Tate is the pastor of Wellspring Church in Williamsburg, and is the clergy representative for equipping the local church for the Common Table.  He is a fourth-generation United Methodist pastor, and native to the Virginia Conference.  He is a graduate of Duke University’s undergraduate and divinity schools.  Tim is the dean of the Goodson Academy for Preaching.  His gifts for ministry are in worship leadership, visioning, leadership, and strategic planning.  He enjoys focusing creative energy through working with technology.        

    

Marilyn Traynham is employed as the church administrator at Mount Olivet Church in Arlington, where she is also a member.  She is the lay representative of human resources for the Common Table.  She volunteers as treasurer for two organizations dedicated to serving the immigrant population:  Grace Ministries, an outreach program providing resources for recent immigrants, and Just Neighbors Ministry, providing free immigration legal services.  She helped create an after-school program at Arlington United Methodist Church for at-risk middle school children.            

 

Anne West is a freshman and an A. Purnell Bailey pre-ministerial scholar at Randolph-Macon College in Ashland, and represents ministries with youth for the Common Table.  She is a member of St. Marks Church in Midlothian, where she stays active helping with the youth group.  She served as conference president of youth ministries for two years.  Her parents, Marilyn and Don, older brother Matthew and a grandmother make up a loving and supportive family.  Her interests include painting and reading.        

        

Rex Wolf represents equipping beyond the local church on the Common Table.  He has a degree from Ohio University, and was a career naval officer.  He is currently the treasurer of the Kenbridge Church.  Rex served as administrator of the Virginia U.M. Assembly Center.  He was a delegate to Jurisdictional and General Conferences in 1996, 2000, and 2004.  He serves on the Finance Committee of the Farmville District and is a member of the Conference Rules Committee.  He is married to Susie Wolf.
