Disaster Response

Disaster Response and Recovery is a vital part of our church mission. We are called to love one another. One of the ways we can show the love and the hands, feet, and face of Jesus is through the efforts we make in the community and around the world.  Response and Recovery happens on five levels at once:  our Conference-wide efforts, work of the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR), district response and recovery, local church efforts, and community support.

For information about our Conference-wide efforts, please visit the links to the left for news about what we are doing in response to specific disasters, to view our Conference Disaster Plan, find contact information for conference and district disaster team members, and view announcements of training events.

For the most recent updates from UMCOR, visit the UMCOR website at:  http://gbgm-umc.org/umcor/   Click on “UMCOR Hot Line Weekly News Update.” Below the “Weekly Update” link, you will find a list of current emergencies with the Advance Special giving number listed.

For the most recent updates from Annual Conferences in the midst of recovery effots, visit the specific annual conference sites. You can find a directory of all the annual conferences at www.umc.org. It is best if you contact each annual conference disaster response and recovery center Web site to view their unique needs for teams, donations, and supplies. Any appeals made to the entire denomination will be posted on our conference Clergy Net and Laity Net e-mail groups.
