Senior Adult Mission Opportunities

Primetimers
In the midst of the International Year of Older Persons, the United Methodist Church responded to various requests for new age-specific programming.
In 1999, the General Board of Global Ministries (GBGM) convened a Design Team to consider the scope and character of a new program initiative for older adults, called Primetimers.

In the course of a typical United Methodist Volunteers in Mission (UMVIM) experience, teams often work 70 percent of the time and learn, sightsee, and rest from their travels the remainder. In a Primetimer experience, we anticipate perhaps as much as 60 percent of the time would be used in educational settings. The other portion of the time would be in Christian service.

Program goals:

  1. Provide new service and learning experiences for older persons.
  2. Serve the ministries of the United Methodist Church and its faith partners.
  3. Strengthen relationships of the local church with those with whom they are in mission.
