National Hispanic Ministries Challenge Fund

Summary: Lay missioners, new resources, educational materials, workshops, mission outreach and evangelism.  (#982620)

Description: The National Plan for Hispanic Ministry has as goals the following:

1) The development of new congregations;

2) The revitilization of congregations;

3) The development of new community ministries (outreach).

All of this work is part of the National Plan. It addresses the needs of the large Hispanic population in the United States and Puerto Rico.

The National Plan for Hispanic Ministries as approved by the General Conference of 1992 has goals that include:

1) The development of 100 new Hispanic congregations;

2) The revitalization of 100 Hispanic congregations and the development of 3,000 new outreach ministries.

This work is now being developed and 58 Annual Conferences reported at the end of 1998, that 51 new congregations had been organized, 35 churches had been revitalized and 337 new outreach ministries organized. The office of Hispanic Ministries -- Mission Contexts and Relationships -- has promoters in the field working to raise funds, to do advertisements in the church media, and make displays for the Annual Conferences. The amount has been reduced to make it a more realistic goal.
