Summary: Education for hundreds of children in a remote area; programs for older adults and economic development. (#773726)
Description: Red Bird Mission, Inc., an agency of the Red Bird Missionary Conference, was founded in 1921 as an evangelical mission with education as its primary objective.
Today, its ministries are much more diverse. There is a modern school which serves more than 300 local children. Its strength is in its strong Christian education program which supplements a quality basic program. Through its Social Services program, a senior citizens center is operated, an 8-unit elderly housing apartment building is managed, meals are provided to the homebound, medical transportation is provided for those with a need. The craft program provides jobs and opportunity in an area where both are scarce. The community store sells clothing and household goods at low prices. A work camp program provides housing repair and minor construction for community residents.
The aim of Red Bird Mission is to minister to the whole person in the name of Christ and help them to become all that they can be. The goal is to present Christ in as many ways as possible - witness comes not only through what we say but also through what we do. Ministering to the whole person means helping them to meet their physical, economic, educational and social needs as well as their spiritual needs.
