National Ministries

A mission team works on the house of a low-income
family in rural Appalachia.

The Advance for Christ and His Church program of our denomination offers a diversity of opportunities to share in ministries with those in need who live within the United States. Despair, hunger, homelessness, poverty, lack of proper medical care, and education are the plight of many who live within the bounds of our own country. At home, the call to mission is great.

Through your gifts to The Advance, the designated giving program of The United Methodist Church, zest and vitality are brought to the lives of countless people in need. From a homeless shelter in Washington, D.C., to a preschool program in rural Kentucky, or pastoral care in Hispanic communities, United Methodists are offering healthy alternatives to the pain and suffering of people across America.

Residents look over the remains of houses de-
stroyed by a Kansas tornado.

These national Advance Specials offer not only a way to give of your money but also a way to go and be in partnership with the people of these areas. Being in God’s mission is about developing loving, caring relationships with those in need.

The mission programs listed to the left have been selected by the conference Board of Global Ministries as worthy recipients of your generosity. Some, like the Hinton Rural Life Center in North Carolina, are very close to home. Others, like the Alaska Native Ministry, are many miles away. But all of them represent The United Methodist Church in action, bringing health and wholeness to people who are in need.
