Virginia Conference Advocate Editor/News Associate
The Virginia Conference is searching for an Editor/News Associate to help resource and equip local churches for ministry and provide a connection for ministry beyond the local church by promoting, publicizing and reporting news, mission and ministry opportunities within the conference and across the denomination. The primary responsibility of the editor is to contribute to and give general oversight to the production of the conference monthly magazine, The Virginia United Methodist Advocate, in both its printed and digital formats. The editor will also be responsible for production of other printed materials, including the conference Journal, Book of Reports and Mission Opportunities booklet. Responsibilities will include writing news stories and taking photos of activities and events occurring in the Virginia Conference to be used in the Advocate magazine, on the conference website, in the e-Advocate weekly digital newsletter, on Social Media and in other ways that may be identified. Job requirements include strong writing skills; proficiency in use of Microsoft Office, InDesign, PhotoShop and Adobe Acrobat software; familiarity with AP style; skill as photographer; and knowledge of The United Methodist Church and its people, polity and procedures. Director of Ministries with Young People
The Office of Connectional Ministries of the Virginia Conference of The United Methodist Church is seeking a creative leader for the ministry position of Director of Ministries with Young People, beginning July 1, 2015.  The Director of Ministries with Young People works as a team member with other Connectional Ministries Associate Directors under the supervision of the Director of Connectional Ministries.  The primary focus of the Director of Ministries with Young People is to lead the Virginia Annual Conference in creating a culture of call for young people.  This goal will include collaboration with the Center for Clergy Excellence in identifying and resourcing young people who are exploring a call to ministry.

Position Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree minimum; theological or religious studies degree desired.  Professional Certification in Christian Education, Children’s Ministry and/or Youth Ministry helpful and previous experience in Children, Youth, Young Adult, and Higher Education ministries preferred
Knowledge of effective models of faith development in the church and of age appropriate ministry, education, and curriculum resources, especially for children, youth, college students, and young adults
Possess personal relationship skills and the ability to work in a cooperative relationship with the Bishop, Cabinet, conference boards and agencies, clergy, and laity
Experience and skill in responding to and working with multiple constituencies
Participate in professional associations, especially United Methodist, on jurisdictional and general church levels
Develop and manage a budget
Effective intrapersonal and written communication skills
Knowledge of and/or willingness to learn the Virginia Conference organization and the operation of the various boards, agencies, and commissions at the local church, district and conference levels and knowledge of The United Methodist Church and its theology, organizational structure and mission

Contemporary Worship Leader

Director of Music Ministries
