Clergy E-mail Accounts
The Virginia Conference provides every active clergy person in the conference an e-mail address ending in @vaumc.org, an address which will remain with the person throughout his or her ministry in the conference. The e-mail addresses will be provided through Google Apps.
The accounts are on Google Servers that make them available on multiple Internet-connected devices (PC, tablet, cell phone, etc.) with synchronization for calendar and e-mail across those devices. In addition, these assigned e-mail addresses will be able to connect to Microsoft Office (Versions 2003, 2007, 2010 and 2013) with synchronization on both e-mail and calendar.
Inactive retired clergy will not automatically receive an e-mail address, but those who want to opt in to the system can request an e-mail address.
After you receive notification of your new e-mail address, you will be able to log in to your new Google account. From your computer or any web-enabled device (Tablet, IPad, etc.) open any web browser (Internet Explorer, FireFox, Chrome) and go to http://mail.google.com/a/vaumc.org or www.gmail.com. Enter your new e-mail address as your username and the password that was sent to you. Click here for detailed instructions on how to log in to your Google Apps account.
In most cases, the new e-mail address is first and last name without a space or a period in between, followed by @vaumc.org. If clergy use a middle name or initials, they can request a change.
District offices are the main contact point for many routine items, such as changing a password, and will direct anyone needing assistance to a video library covering e-mail self-help topics. (Click here for instructions on manually changing your password at any time.)

Other instructions will be available for setting up e-mail reception on a variety of mobile devices and forwarding e-mail to a different inbox. The conference IT office also plans to make a variety of training resources available, including webinars. More advanced concerns should be passed on to the conference IT staff for assistance.
