The 2014 session of the Virginia Annual Conference will be held at the Hampton Roads Convention Center in Hampton, Va., Friday, June 20, to Sunday, June 22. Laity and Clergy sessions will begin at 1 p.m. on Friday. First plenary session begins at 3 p.m. Ending time should be around noon on Sunday.

Theme of this year's Annual Conference is “Lord Renew Us with Your Spirit.” The logo, designed by Cathryn Wooton in the conference Communications office, features red and orange elements of fire representing the Holy Spirit and blue elements of water representing the renewal of Christian baptism.

You can still order DVDs of Annual Conference
The conference Communications office is selling DVDs of the 2014 Annual Conference session. Those who order and pay for DVDs prior to June 15 will be able to pick up their DVDs at the end of the Annual Conference session on Sunday. (These DVDs will NOT have the Teaching Sessions or the Sunday morning closing worship. Those will be included on a disc that will be mailed the following week.) Those who do not pre-order, but who purchase DVDs during Annual Conference will be able to pick up DVDs at the end of Annual Conference as long as pre-configured quantities last. All others, including DVDs ordered after Annual Conference, will be mailed within one week. Live streaming on website, Facebook
Live streaming of the 2014 Virginia Annual Conference will be available, beginning at 1 p.m. Friday, June 20. Click here or go to the Virginia Conference Facebook page. The live streaming will show all sessions of the three-day conference, including worship at 11 a.m. Sunday, June 22, when Bishop Young Jin Cho will preach. Local churches may show the live video of the Annual Conference worship service during their Sunday morning worship services and participate by following the liturgy for the service.

4 Cans 4 Conference
Members of Annual Conference are encouraged to bring at least four cans of food or boxes of dry food to the session in Hampton for "4 Cans 4 Conference." Requested are: one can of vegetables or fruit, one can of meat or fish, one can of soup or stew and one can with a pop-top. There will be a drop-off area outside the Convention Center near the Kits Collection point. For more information, contact the Rev. Jim Earley at pastor@walkerchapel.org or (703) 538-5200.

Kits for Conference
The total number of kits collected for UMCOR was 41,218, with a total value of $533,834. Specifically: 20,844 Health kits, 11,306 School kits, 5,325 Birthing kits, 1,666 Layette kits, 228 Cleaning kits, 394 Bedding kits, and 1,455 miscellaneous kits.

Please read and follow all instructions as these kits are put together to help UMCOR distribute these kits in a timely manner.  Incomplete kits do cause delays. According to UMCOR, the most needed kits at this time are Sewing, Layette and Bedding, but all kit types are always welcome. Kit collection hours for Annual Conference will be Friday, June 20, 9:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m.; and Saturday, June 21, 7:30 a.m.-3:00 p.m. If you are donating money, checks need to be made payable to the Virginia United Methodist Conference and sent to the attention of the Treasurer's Office at PO Box 5606, Glen Allen, VA  23058. This year the Annual Conference special offering goal is $200,000. Bishop Young Jin Cho is requesting funds to support eight projects.

Photos to be taken June 20 for online pictorial directory
All clergy, diaconal ministers, certified professionals, those serving as pastoral supply, retired bishops and conference staff who DID NOT have a picture taken last year, including those newly commissioned, will have the opportunity to have their photos taken this year for the Virginia Conference online pictorial directory. Lifetouch will have a photo booth in the exhibits area from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Friday, June 20. If your picture is already in the online directory, it is NOT necessary for a new photo to be taken. Free Child Care
The deadline to register for child care is Monday, June 16, at noon. Wesley United Methodist Church in Hampton will host this year's child care, free of charge, because of the generosity of the York River District. Staffed child care for day and evening sessions will be available at Wesley UMC, 2510 N. Armistead Ave., Hampton, VA 23666, which is less than three miles from the Hampton Convention Center.  Child care will be a mini-Vacation Bible School experience using Cokesbury’s Workshop of Wonders, where kids will discover how to imagine and build with God. Per Diem Voucher and EFT Payment Information Request for Annual Conference
By conference action, retirees, persons receiving their first appointment, and eligible others listed in the Book of Reports are authorized to receive reimbursement for expenses to attend Annual Conference, not to exceed $100 per day and subject to limitations of conference approved rates. Vouchers will be included with the Book of Reports mailing or can be obtained by clicking here (pdf). The Conference Treasurer’s office is encouraging all reimbursements to be made by direct deposit. Instructions are attached to the voucher to make provisions for direct deposit. Vouchers will not be accepted after July 31. 

Virtual Promo Packets

In an effort to be good stewards of the environment and financial resources of the conference, the annual conference “promo packets” will again this year be virtual. Electronic copies of materials previously submitted in hard copy for the tote bag will be accepted – at no cost to the organizations submitting them – for inclusion in the Virtual Promo Packet, which will be posted on this page of the Web site. The Virtual Packet will be available for viewing on the Web site beginning June 3. Those organizations still wishing to disseminate their information in a hard-copy format may arrange for a display table at the Hampton Roads Convention Center by contacting Larry Brayton at 804-517-0435 or pastor@tumfc.org; display guidelines and a Display Request form are also available on this page. Information for the Virtual Promo Packet needs to be submitted in pdf format to the Office of Connectional Ministries (BevMyers@vaumc.org) for approval by Friday, May 22.
